NewYork-Presbyterian celebrates the match of Kate Tobin Carroll, MD, to our accredited fellowship in pediatric neurosurgery for the 2025-2026 academic year. Dr. Carroll is currently completing her neurosurgical residency at the University of Washington School of Medicine in Seattle. She earned her MD in 2018 at the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine. Dr. Carroll also holds a master’s degree in clinical research from UCSD, which she earned after completing her undergraduate studies at Princeton.
Fellowship training after seven years of residency provides neurosurgeons with advanced training in their chosen subspecialty and equips them with the enhanced skills to become accomplished in their field. During their training years, residents choose the subspecialty where they are likely to spend their careers, from endovascular neurosurgery to spine surgery to pediatric neurosurgery. The process for securing a neurosurgical fellowship is competitive, with only 30 institutions in the United States offering accredited fellowship training in pediatric neurosurgery. Other institutions offer non-accredited fellowships, but accreditation confers authority on programs that meet the standards. Our Pediatric Neurosurgery Fellowship is certified by the Accreditation Council for Pediatric Neurosurgery Fellowships (ACPNF), and fellows are selected through the regular process managed by the Fellowship Match for Neurological Surgery (San Francisco Matching Programs).
Dr. Carroll will spend her fellowship year with the neurosurgeons of the combined pediatric neurosurgery service of Weill Cornell Medicine and Columbia University. She will train under the direct mentorship of Dr. Caitlin Hoffman and Dr. Neil Feldstein, with additional training from Dr. Mark Souweidane, Dr. Jeffrey Greenfield, and Dr. Taemin Oh.
