#BlackInNeuroWeek Features Fellow Dr. Beverly Cheserem

Our neurosurgery fellow in Tanzania, Dr. Beverly Cheserem, was spotlighted during the #BlackInNeuroWeek social media campaign. The #BlackInNeuroWeek campaign takes place from Monday, July 27 to Sunday, August 2 and aims to create a space dedicated to spotlighting success and supporting black professionals in the neurosciences.

Dr. Cheserem’s journey to neurosurgery started when she was working as a junior doctor in London. She was fascinated by the spectrum neurosurgery operated in, from newborn babies to senior citizens. Drawn to what she calls the “tightrope between success and failture,” she is excited by the ongoing research in neurosurgery.

In addition to her fellowship in Tanzania, Dr. Cheserem was recently invited to join the Young Neurosurgeons Forum for the World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies, an organization focused on supporting young neurosurgeons around the world.
