In this role, Dr. Knopman will help guide the journal’s editorial direction, overseeing the evaluation of emerging research and innovations that shape clinical practice in endovascular neurosurgery. His appointment reflects Weill Cornell Medicine’s continued growing leadership in cerebrovascular and minimally invasive neurosurgical care.

“Endovascular neurosurgery is evolving at an extraordinary pace," Dr. Knopman said. "Many of the procedures we perform today did not exist when I was in training, and the next decade promises even more transformational advances.”

Dr. Knopman is a board-certified neurosurgeon and interventional neuroradiologist who specializes in complex brain and spine cerebrovascular disorders, including brain aneurysms, arteriovenous malformations, carotid occlusive disease, and subdural hematomas. He performs roughly 700 neurosurgical cases annually, placing him amongst the highest-volume neurosurgeons in the country. His clinical expertise includes embolization and microsurgery for aneurysms and AVMs, carotid artery stenting and endarterectomy, microvascular decompression, and he is the pioneer of middle meningeal artery embolization for subdural hematomas. He also serves as Fellowship Director for Endovascular Neurosurgery, helping to train the next generation of specialists.

Dr. Knopman has been recognized as a NewYork SuperDoctor and is frequently sought out as a consultant, traveling to train other neurosurgeons in advanced stenting techniques for complex aneurysms. His work has also been featured in national media, including an ABC News story highlighting a lifesaving case at Weill Cornell Medicine and NewYork-Presbyterian.

Through his new editorial role, Dr. Knopman will contribute his extensive clinical and innovative perspective to ensure that published research remains rigorous, relevant, and directly impactful for patient care. Dr. Knopman’s appointment reinforces the journal’s position as a trusted source for innovation and evidence-based practice in neurointerventional surgery.
