Dr. Souweidane Named Winner of Excellence in Medical Education Award

Congratulations are due to Dr. Mark Souweidane, who was honored by Augustine M.K. Choi, MD, the Stephen and Suzanne Weiss Dean of Weill Cornell Medicine, and Yoon Kang, MD, Senior Associate Dean for Education, as one of the winners of this year’s Excellence in Medical Education Awards. These annual awards are given to faculty members for outstanding contributions to the education of our medical students. Dr. Souweidane was honored for his excellence in the Areas of Concentration (AOC) Program.

The AOC Program allows medical students to select a specific topic to explore in depth. Students are assigned to a core faculty adviser, who guides them through the program and helps them choose an area of concentration and a mentor for the scholarly project that is the final element of the course of study.

In his remarks, Dean Choi applauded this year’s winners, noting that medical student education is “a core part of being a physician and faculty member” at Weill Cornell Medicine.  The guidance of these outstanding educators, he said, is “vital to the success of our students.” See more about this year's award winners in this video.
