Dr. Umberto Tosi Named NYP/Weill Cornell Graduate Staff of the Month

Umberto Tosi, M.D., chief neurosurgery resident, has been named the NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Graduate Staff of the Month for October 2025 in recognition of his excellence in clinical care, teamwork and professionalism.

Dr. Tosi was praised for his compassion, leadership and collaborative spirit in caring for critically ill neurological patients.

“Dr. Tosi cares for patients with outstanding compassion and supports families of patients with severe neurological conditions in such a graceful and refreshing manner I rarely have the opportunity to witness,” said Weill Cornell Medicine neurology resident, Dr. Marialaura Simonetto

Reflecting on the honor, Dr. Tosi said, “I’m truly humbled to receive this recognition. It’s a reflection of the incredible teamwork that defines our department, from residents and fellows to nurses, attendings and staff. I feel grateful every day to be part of a program that values collaboration and compassionate care as much as technical excellence.”

Dr. Tosi received his medical degree with Honors in Research from Weill Cornell Medical College in 2020, where he trained in the laboratory of Dr. Mark Souweidane as part of the Children’s Brain Tumor Project, investigating novel drug delivery technologies for pediatric gliomas. As a medical student, he was awarded an Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation POST Grant and the Rudin Pediatric Neuro-oncology Fellowship. He received the Harold G. Wolff Research Prize upon graduation.

As a resident, Dr. Tosi has continued to advance his interest in neurosurgical oncology, focusing on skull base surgical approaches under the mentorship of Dr. Souweidane and Dr. Ramakrishna. Dr. Tosi also works on tumor biology and novel therapeutics with Dr. Tabar at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.

Originally from Italy, Dr. Tosi earned his bachelor’s degree summa cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania, where he double-majored in Biological Basis of Behavior and Chemistry and was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa.

Congratulations to Dr. Tosi on this well-deserved honor.
