NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center has been recertified by The Joint Commission as a Comprehensive Stroke Center, reaffirming its standing as a leader in stroke care and treatment excellence. The Comprehensive Stroke Center designation represents the highest level of stroke certification awarded by The Joint Commission, an independent, evidence-based standards-setting organization that benchmarks safe, high-quality care.
This recertification reflects the institution’s continued commitment to providing advanced, around-the-clock stroke care for patients with complex cerebrovascular conditions. To earn this distinction, hospitals must meet rigorous performance and quality standards that demonstrate excellence in the treatment of ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke, brain aneurysms and carotid stenosis.

Jared Knopman, M.D.
“Comprehensive Stroke Center designation establishes NewYork-Presbyterian as a premier world-class institution for the treatment of ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke,” said Dr. Jared Knopman, Director of Cerebrovascular and Endovascular Neurosurgery at Weill Cornell Medicine and NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center. “Our center boasts some of the highest clinical volumes and lowest national complication rates in the treatment of brain aneurysms, carotid stenosis and stroke.”
NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center is one of only a select number of hospitals nationwide to hold this distinction, emphasizing its leadership in both clinical outcomes and innovation in stroke care.
This recertification also highlights the multidisciplinary collaboration among neurological surgery, neurology, neuroradiology and emergency medicine specialists across Weill Cornell Medicine and NewYork-Presbyterian, who work together to deliver timely, evidence-based interventions that save lives and improve patient outcomes.
The Joint Commission’s recognition serves as a symbol of NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center’s ongoing dedication to excellence, quality, and safety for every patient, every day.
