Trial Eligibility:
- All subjects must be over age 18 and not pregnant.
- Healthy men and women without history of TBI, major medical or psychiatric problems or drug or alcohol abuse to serve as control subjects.
- Women who have been victims of interpersonal or domestic violence (physical abuse by a spouse, partner or boyfriend) who may or may not have experienced TBI as a result of this abuse.
- Men and women who have experienced a recent significant TBI associated with loss of consciousness and/or evidence of brain injury on CT (computed tomography) scan. Subjects with TBI must be enrolled in this research study within 14 days of injury. Because of this time constraint, we expect to enroll most subjects with TBI from a hospital emergency room, but if you think you or someone you know is interested in and qualifies for this study, please feel free to contact us.

Trial Description:
We are looking for people to participate in a Weill Cornell research study using Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and Positron Emission Tomography (PET) to better understand brain processes that may make Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) a risk factor for later development of Alzheimer’s Disease or Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE).
Research study participation lasts up to two years and involves:
- 2-5 visits (each lasting 3-6 hours) to Weill Cornell Medicine on the Upper East Side of Manhattan
- Interviews/questionnaires
- Blood and urine tests
- 1-3 brain MRI scans
- 2-6 brain PET scans (PET scanning involves radiation exposure)
- $100-$200 compensation for each visit
